Bland & Co Jewellers is a working jeweller and watch dealer based in Hatton Garden, London EC1. For UK GDPR purposes we are the data controller for the information you give us through this website, by phone, by WhatsApp, by email, by post, or at the counter.

What we collect
Only what we need to do the job. Specifically:
- Identity & contact — name, email, phone, and (for in-person settlements above legal thresholds) a copy of photographic ID and proof of address.
- Piece details — photos, descriptions, hallmarks, serial numbers, and any paperwork you send for valuation or sale.
- Transaction records — what we bought, sold, valued, the date, the price, and how it was paid.
- Site & message data — the email and message you submit through our forms; basic technical logs (IP, browser) kept by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.
We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18 and do not process special-category data (health, religion, biometrics) unless you volunteer it as part of the provenance of a piece.

Why we collect it — and the lawful basis
Under UK GDPR every use of your data has to sit under a lawful basis. Ours are:
- Contract — to value, buy, sell, repair, or otherwise process a piece you've asked us to handle.
- Legal obligation — to meet our duties under the UK Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds Regulations 2017 (commonly "5MLD" / now retained UK MLR), HMRC tax law, and the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
- Legitimate interests — to reply to your enquiry, to run and secure this website, and to keep transaction records the trade routinely keeps.
- Consent — only where required (e.g. an explicit tick to receive a quote by email). You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

Who we share it with
We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, ever. We do use a small number of trusted service providers ("processors") strictly to run the business:
- Resend — transactional email delivery for form replies.
- Cloudflare R2 — secure storage of the photos and videos you send for valuation.
- Convex — the database that holds enquiries, consultations, and inventory.
- Vercel — hosting and request logs for this website.
- Google Maps — if you open the embedded map on the homepage.
Each processor handles your data only on our instructions, under written terms that meet UK GDPR. We may also share information with HMRC, the police, the National Crime Agency, our AML supervisor, our insurer, our accountant, or our solicitor where the law or a court order requires it.

How long we keep it
Different things have different shelf lives:
- Enquiries & quotes
- Up to 24 months from the last contact, then deleted.
- Customer due-diligence records
- Five years from the end of the business relationship, as required by UK MLR.
- Transaction records
- Six years for HMRC and tax purposes.
- Photos sent for valuation
- Deleted when the enquiry is closed, unless tied to a completed transaction.
- Website server logs
- Up to 30 days, then rotated out.

Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct anything that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete it (subject to the legal retention windows in section 5).
- Ask us to restrict or object to certain uses.
- Withdraw consent where consent was the basis.
- Receive your data in a portable format.

Cookies & the site
This site is deliberately quiet. We do not run third-party advertising, behavioural tracking, or analytics that profile you.
Our hosting provider (Vercel) sets a small number of strictly-necessary cookies for security, load balancing, and abuse prevention — these don't identify you. The Google Maps embed, if you open it, sets its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.
